Biggest tips :
💛 place crate in high traffic / visual area. Puppy needs to see and hear his family pack.
💛 keep it positive at ALL costs. Never use it as punishment.
💛Remember puppy can feel what you are feeling so if you are upset or disappointed and know you have left your calm / assertive state take yourself for a breather before crating your puppy. It's not worth all the anxiety and / or negitivity towards the crate.
💛 Always feed your puppy in the crate. Give treats in the crate, put fun toys in. Make it a fun blissed out space!
💛 example of crate time.
TIRE PUPPY OUT.
Lure in the crate with treats etc.
Sit with puppy - talk / sing * be calm and sure.
When puppy cries, reassure calmly
If crying doesn't stop open crate door and let puppy out and go another round of tire out. Repeat.
🌙Nightime is different. There is no releasing from the crate! You can open the crate door and pet BUT NOT LET OUT. Stick your hand/face in .. whatever calms.
Make it dark with a blanket or towel. Quieter. Make it night. Make sure puppy is super tired
( like falling asleep on couch etc tired before taking him to the crate ) 10pm ish is a good start time.
When puppy wakes up go out for a pee (3-4ish am? ) head outside or to the pee pad. And then back into crate with the same
soothing ritual. You will be tired but remember the effort put in now is worth a calm comfortable dog for life instead of anxiety to battle with. A safe haven.
💛 Be gentle to yourself during this learning curve. You've got this thing!
Disclaimer ..haha.. This is just one way of doing things that we did for Moon. I stand by it because it worked so well for my Moonie.
We have had 6 Weims and currently have a 4yr old female, recently lost our 13 yr old male. Wondering if you have any plans on having another litter. We would be interested. We live in Novs Scotia, close to Peggy's Cove.
